" If Little Shubert is a visual joke, his moniker is a pun: After a decade, nine-time Tony Award winner Tune is returning to the New York stage with a show that inaugurates the new Little Shubert Theatre "Certainly not made of singing and dancing up a storm â€â€? that's not where I was Then I went, 'Oh my God, my dream came true really fast! Now what am I going to do?'" He managed just fine: He's the only person in theater history to win Tonys in four categories: best choreography, best direction of a musical, best lead actor in a musical and best featured actor in a musical " If it seems like a trip down memory lane, that's the point " Nicknamed "Dr "If it's something that takes too much effort, then it's probably not appropriate," he says "I believe that performance was the birth of my next stage as an entertainer Tune" for his ability to cure ailing Broadway musicals, his other hits include "My One and Only," "Seesaw," "A Day in Hollywood/A Night in the Ukraine" and "Nine I came up, I auditioned and I got the job Gone," he says sorrowfully "I thought, 'This is a test, when your mettle is tested If you saw me before then and you see me now, I'm hugely changed "I had the material basically Tune tap dances and belts out such songs as "S'Wonderful," "Fascinating Rhythm," "Puttin' on the Ritz" and "When I'm 64 " For the new show, Tune again teamed up with The Manhattan Rhythm Kings â€â€? an 18-year collaboration I wanted to say, 'Tap your troubles away He chose not to cancel "When you get this tall, you don't realize it because you're not seeing yourself " As for his own dancing, Tune says he clings to the belief that the audience must never know how much he is laboring up on stage Patrick's Day in 1962 hoping to dance professionally " Tragedy provided the spark "I wanted to make a statement His toilet training is impressionistic at best I've added quite a lot of new stuff and I've pulled some stuff out that we hadn't performed in a while and put some stuff that I was tired of playing back in the trunk After watching the World Trade center towers crumble on Sept The show's inspiration came from the performances Tune never managed to catch as a young man and wanted to recapture â€â€?
