Let's hope not â€â€? but then again, it will likely come down to a contest between the rock veterans Taylor and Elton John, and Taylor did have the better year That dig aside, it's a clear win for Springsteen for his stirring performance on "The Rising Jackson is a tough contender, but the Dixie Chicks' fine "Home" appealed to more people outside the genre and will win Kelly would need a chaperone, or a police escort, to walk him to the podium, wouldn't he? This vote's for Usher MOODY: It's a sad day when all the nominees for male rock performance are old enough to be Viagra spokesmen <STRONG>Country Album</STRONG> Nominees: "Home," Dixie Chicks; "Drive," Alan Jackson; "The Great Divide," Willie Nelson; "Man with a Memory," Joe Nichols; "Halos & Horns," Dolly Parton BAUDER: Dolly should win some sort of prize for her bluegrass version of "Stairway to Heaven," the year's most bizarre cover MOODY: Gotta agree here, even though Pink's "M!ssundaztood" grew on me over the last year The chances of anyone dominating the Feb <STRONG>New Artist</STRONG> Nominees: Ashanti; Michelle Branch; Norah Jones; Avril Lavigne; John Mayer BAUDER: Norah That will carry him to victory MOODY: Eminem should have won this category two years ago, but he got robbed by Grammy voters more concerned about making up for past slights (Steely Dan, who had never won a Grammy before, won the category) BAUDER: Vanessa, eh? I'll stand in the middle of Times Square and proclaim you the queen of the world if that happens, Nekesa <STRONG>Song of the Year</STRONG> Nominees: "Complicated," written by Avril Lavigne & The Matrix (performed by Avril Lavigne); "Don't Know Why," Jesse Harris (Norah Jones); "The Rising," Bruce Springsteen (Bruce Springsteen); "A Thousand Miles," Vanessa Carlton (Vanessa Carlton); "Where Were You (When the World Stopped Turning)," Alan Jackson (Alan Jackson) MOODY: There's really nothing to debate here: Springsteen easily wins this category While Jones' sultry song may have gotten more critical praise, Carlton's was ubiquitous â€â€? and will emerge as the surprise winner <STRONG>Album of the Year</STRONG> Nominees: "Home," Dixie Chicks; "The Eminem Show," Eminem; "Come Away With Me," Norah Jones; "Nellyville," Nelly; "The Rising," Bruce Springsteen BAUDER: Broooooooce! Seriously, this is a solid album that addressed the critical issue of its time, from a veteran artist overdue for a big wet Grammy kiss Still, Jones' smoky, jazzy performance on "Don't Know Why" emerged as pop's biggest success story this year â€â€? and she will be rewarded here Kelly even got nominated is surprising â€â€? but it would be downright stunning if he won (though it would make for good television) That will help her eke out a win Although a Springsteen victory wouldn't be a crime, Eminem's album was superior Start engraving Springsteen's name, for this triumphant, gospel-like rouser |
