"Go out, and have a laugh, and just generally bum around It's about Irish Catholics like her, and there's a character who roughly approximates her father when he was a youth You have to say, `It happened, and it was terrible and hopefully we're going to make sure it never happens again The film can be viewed as brutally honest or unrelentingly heavy-handed The 19-year-old neophyte plays an orphan deemed in "moral danger" of being a nymphet Noone next can be seen in a small role in "Ella Enchanted," a film starring Anne Hathaway of "The Princess Diaries," slated for release next year " And after all the bad publicity over sexual abuse by Catholic priests, she maintains that this film doesn't amount to piling on " "The Magdalene Sisters," which begins in 1964, was named best film at last year's Venice Film Festival " Noone didn't know much about the Magdalene asylums while growing up, saying there were just "whispers" about them "I think it's great to kind of challenge yourself and to be able to say, `I've done this now, and I'll try something completely different and see how that goes "That's why there are things coming out now He found out a lot more about what went on in the asylums when he got older "If the people running these places had been living by the religion, these terrible things wouldn't have happened in the first place " Noone sounds gratified that Mullan was so taken with her versatility, since that's the trait she respects most There's one particularly harrowing scene in "The Magdalene Sisters" in which the women are lined up naked and verbally humiliated by a nun about their bodies In the meantime Noone, the youngest of four children, will continue to audition for other roles and attend school " "Nora had the natural ability to make those jumps The women worked 364 days a year without pay, sometimes suffering physical and sexual abuse After her initial shock in finding out all that went on, Noone wondered: "How did it go on for so long? Why didn't people kind of stand up to it?"
