"Musagete" â€â€? the title stems from one of Balanchine's early works â€â€? focuses on three of the choreographer's greatest loves, only one of them a wife Carla Korbes, a corps member whom Martins has tapped for a number of prominent roles, has a lovely graceful line to her dancing, and her long blond hair, flowing down her back, added to the effect But the passionate dancing of Miranda Weese and Jock Soto was well worth enduring any overall sense of confusion "Chichester Palms" was the more accessible of the two, a majestically visual piece set to Leonard Bernstein's 1965 choral work of the same name Another love is Tanaquil Le Clercq, Balanchine's fourth wife, made delicate and feminine by Alexandra Ansanelli in filmy pink As danced by Robert Tewsley, Balanchine is a moody, depressed man who is constantly lifted from sadness and turmoil by his work, and by new love |
