The Hollywood Reporter says Jason George is in talks to star opposite Eve in the series "The Opposite Sex." The two have hooked up before for the cameras. George played Eve's boyfriend in last year's comedy "Barbershop." Jason George recently starred in "Platinum" and he also was on the WB comedy "Off Centre." They died in a plane crash the next day. In 1971, The Osmonds received their first gold record, for "One Bad Apple." In 1973, the NBC TV rock show "Midnight Special" debuted, with Helen Reddy as host. In 1974, Keith Emerson of Emerson, Lake and Palmer suffered minor cuts when a rigged piano exploded prematurely during a concert in San Francisco. In 1980, Pink Floyd performed "The Wall" for the first time in the United States. The band only did the show in Los Angeles and New York. In 1990, singer Billy Idol shattered a leg and broke an arm when his motorcycle hit a car in Los Angeles. Police said Idol ran a stop sign and wasn't wearing a helmet. Also in 1990, CBS News suspended "60 Minutes" commentator Andy Rooney for racial remarks he reportedly made about blacks in the gay magazine "The Advocate." Rooney denied the quotes. In 1993, a judge in New York dropped gun charges against singer Harry Connick Jr. He'd been arrested when he tried to bring a pistol on board a flight at Kennedy Airport. Also in 1993, Willie Nelson and the Internal Revenue Service reached a settlement on his estimated $17 million tax debt. In 1996, actress Elizabeth Taylor filed for divorce from her seventh husband, Larry Fortensky, because of irreconcilable differences. In 2001, Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman announced their separation after nearly a decade of marriage. |
