He once was a screenhero to druggies â€â€? and now he's a patron to the arts He estimates that he's spent about $1 million on his collection Cheech Marin has the largest collection of Chicano art in the world And the star of the 1978 hit stoner movie "Up in Smoke" has loaned some of his paintings to the Smithsonian as part of a five-year art tour that Marin hopes will introduce people to a painting style most have never seen "Ninety-five percent of the country doesn't know what a Chicano is, much less what their art looks like," Marin said The act of painting those scenes, often by people who spent their life in the country, is a reaction to that clash between rural and urban cultures, Marin said "We are American as tacos Marin owns about 200 paintings The tour is intended to introduce Latino people as having an influence on mainstream culture in the United States, Marin said, adding that displaying Chicano art in museums is further evidence of how Latinos have become part of America's culture " Diddy, who goes by his real name, Sean Combs, in a revival of "A Raisin in the Sun"; and Billy Joel, whose songs are heard in the dance musical "Movin' Out " Those with more minimal ties include LL Cool J, Jimmy Fallon and Scarlett Johansson Among the theater veterans who will present awards are Nathan Lane, Bernadette Peters, Chita Rivera, Joel Grey, Brian Stokes Mitchell and John Lithgow, as well as last year's winner for best actress in a musical, Marissa Jaret Winokur They include Patrick Stewart, Sarah Jessica Parker, Phylicia Rashad, Taye Diggs, Sigourney Weaver, Helen Mirren, Ethan Hawke, Anne Heche, Jane Krakowski, Peter Krause, Anna Paquin, Laura Linney, Carole Bayer Sager and Martin Short The list of presenters at the 2004 Tony Awards is an eclectic bunch, including some with tenuous ties to the theater but who might help draw a new audience for the awards show, which will be telecast June 6 by CBS from Radio City Music Hall â€â€?â€â€?â€â€?
