He said he likes to think of the stage as a platform for adventure "You're successful every time you perform, because everybody is moved â€â€? one way or the other McFerrin Helps College Students Perform Jan 30, 5:12 PM EST Grammy award winning singer and conductor Bobby McFerrin used to get nervous before he would perform because he thought everyone in the audience had the same expectations " One of his hits in the 1980s was the pop song "Don't Worry, Be Happy " McFerrin is working with several student musical groups in preparation for a concert Friday night "An audience is a new gathering of people every time, a new energy," he said "Even your mistakes can take you to a wonderful place," he said "But then I realized that you only have to worry about one person," said McFerrin, participating in an artist-in-residence program this week at Denison University " McFerrin is known as a jazz and pop vocalist with a four-octave range and a knack for impersonating any instrument or sound "I can take off like a rocket, or lie still and float, like a water lily, on the surface of a pond," he said "It's like home in a lot of ways â€â€?
