I am seeking a young, female choreographer to put together two dances to Christian contemporary music to be performed by a small group of girls, aged 11-14. These girls have NO, I repeat, NO dance training, but have a lot of enthusiasm for the project. Being in their middle school years, they of course have self-esteem and self-image issues already. So I don't want someone who's going to come in and tell them, "You suck!" or "Those leggings make you look fat!" You must understand they are untrained, and encourage them, cheer them on, and tell them when they're doing well (even if you have to lie a little!)
One dance will be slow, kinda like ballet (remember - untrained!!!) and one dance will be faster, more modern - leaning towards but not completely hip-hop. You also must be willing to engage the girls, seek their input, and incorporate some of their ideas into the choreography. This is as much an exercise in celebrating their faith as it is in building their confidence.
If you feel you can take this on, I need the following information:
name and contact info
a quick general outline of your experience ( not your resume)
how long you feel it would take for these girls to learn the routines, and how often they should practice
what kind of compensation you would expect
We have limited access to the fellowship hall at our church for practice space. If you have a better space, well that's just very cool.
This is for a one-time event in the spring, but if things work out, could snowball into more work/referrals for you. There is no real age minimum, high school students are welcome to apply. If you have video of your previous performance(s), feel free to e-mail it in lieu of an audition.
